League of Legends players do what Riot can't with unofficial replay tool
A pair of Australian programmers have done in three weeks what League of Legends developer Riot Games has found itself incapable of in two whole years: produced a working replay tool for the highly competitive action strategy title.
According to games.on.net, LOL Replay works by recording network traffic, which is then pieced back together into an intelligible replay. As the tool does not interface directly with the League of Legends client, Riot's legal position as regards the tool is uncertain.
Beyond removing any links found on the game's official forum, Riot is yet to issue any formal statement on LOL Replay, although Riot staff have commented that an in-client replay tool is made difficult by multiple concurrent patches.
The latest version of LOL Replay is available from the mod's official website. Perth-based creators Matt and Cam whipped the tool up in their spare time.
