Please watch this Korean League of Legends ad
In Korea, League of Legends is a wholesome and beautiful pastime you could bring home to meet your parents.
League of Legends has a reputation for toxicity, although Riot is doing a great job of battling that, but even if you strip away all that it is at its heart a game about smacking the competition as hard as you can.
And yet this Korean advertisement for the MOBA manages to make it look - peaceful and lovely? It captures some of the highs, excitement and rewarding effort of climbing the ranks, while at the same time somehow suggesting it is sweet and light, like a perfect rainbow heart cookie or a boutique chain of bakery cafes. I want to eat League of Legends, now.
You know, I don't think I have ever in my life said "ell oh ell". I pronounce "LoL" like the word "loll", and tend to shorten League of Legends to "League". Is "ell oh ell" a thing? Do you say that with your mouth flaps? Do you like cookies? Let's be friends. I feel very benevolent all of a sudden.
