Kongregate: Decision to pull Arcade app "bizarre"

android

Kongregate CEO Jim Greer has told Joystiq that Google's decision to pull the company's Arcade is "bizarre".

Released on Wednesday morning, the app, which is a flash portal of Kongregate's site that has access to 300 games, Google removed the app, citing that it could not use its app store to promote another one.

But Greer says that is not the case.

"The reason for the removal," he told the site, "and we didn't find out until after it was already gone, was that they claim you can't use their app store to distribute another app store -- which is a reasonable restriction. But to us, what's really bizarre, to call [Kongregate Arcade] an 'app store' seems like a pretty extreme stretch.

"Literally, you can go to m.kongregate.com and play any of the games. And the experience will be -- once you've got the game on your phone -- just the same," other then the inclusion of the app's social features and "rich presentation layer".

There's a lot more on the matter through the link.
