You can buy a standalone Xbox One Kinect in October

Microsoft has confirmed you will be able to buy a standalone Kinect for Xbox One in October.

It will come with Dance Central Spotlight from Harmonix as a digital download. Kinect with Dance Central Spotlight will be available at retailers for $149.99 starting October 7.

Microsoft announced in May that a standalone Kinect will be released in the fall, and it appears we may have an exact date for the peripheral's release.

According to a source speaking with Windows Phone Central (thanks, CVG), the Kinect 2 senor will land in North America first on October 6.

After being released packaged with Xbox One, Microsoft started offering the new console without Kinect 2 on June 9 for $399/£349.

Selling Xbox One without Kinect was something consumers had been roaring about since Xbox One was first announced. Many attributed the high price point of the console to the inclusion of Kinect, and many didn't want to be 'forced' into buying a peripheral they didn't want or necessarily need.

After months of stating it would not offer the console without the camera, Microsoft changed its mind, and when new Xbox boss Phil Spencer announced the new SKU, you could almost hear the applause erupt across the Internet.

The standalone Kinect 2 will reportedly set you back $149, which is less than the cost of the Windows PC version which released last month for £159/$199.
