Journey, SOE, publishing trends talks added to GDC Europe
GDC Europe organisers have announced another three talks for its already jam-packed schedule, making us wonder where the heck they intend to put them all.
On the Design track, the ever-popular Robin Hunicke, once of thatgamecompany and now happily ensconced at Tiny Speck, will chat about the best-selling Journey. The online multiplayer adventure took twice as long to develop as expected, and Hunicke promises to chart its progression and metamorphosis from initial vision to finished game.
Microsft, Konami and Capcom are among a number of publishers fronting a panel on "Adapting and Succeeding in a Changing Games Industry". Representatives will discuss how major publishers have remained afloat and adapted to the rapidly-shifting environments of the last few years - and those to come.
In another Business & Marketing presentation, Sony Online Entertainment's Linda Carlson will give a talk called "Surviving Social Media - Experimentation Leads to Innovation". Guess what it's about?
GDC Europe runs August 13-15 alongside gamescom in Cologne. Wondering how to fit everything in? There's an app for that.
