Joe Danger, No Man's Sky developer flooded during Christmas storms
Hello Games suffered extensive damages at its Guildford offices after storms caused a river to burst its banks on Christmas Eve.
"Hello Games has been totally flooded. Everything in the office has pretty much been lost," the developer's Twitter account said on Christmas Eve.
The water was high enough to broach the office's windows, and the developer lost a lot of equipment including laptops and desktops, its "mega PC", a couch and even a wall.
The indie kept its sense of humour and perspective despite the damage, pointing out that many of its neighbours are residents, who lost their homes rather than just their offices.
Unfortunately, it later confirmed that insurance won't cover the damage due to the office's location in a flood risk zone.
The damage is likely to have at least mild impact on the development of No Man's Sky, the recently-announced space exploration sandbox for next-gen systems, as work will be curtailed until the team can find new office space and purchase equipment.
Hopefully, no work in progress was lost; Hello Games almost certainly keeps off-site backups of its builds.
