It's time to "get started on the next technologies moving forward," says Raymond

Ubisoft Toronto's Jade Raymond has said developers need to "get started on the next technologies moving forward," whether it's consoles, mobile, or PC. However, she doesn't feel home consoles are on the way out any time soon.

Speaking with Gamasutra at GDC, Raymond said the next Xbox, Wii U and PS4 won't be last generation of home consoles.

"There's always going to be a market for the very high end, whatever that high end is," she said. "If consoles eventually become the holodeck – and I can only have that at home, I'm going to want that.

"It's going to be something you can't get walking to the bus. … That high-end experience needs to be beefed up with our top hardware – but more and more we're going to have to think about what people's experiences are."

Whatever these technologies may be, Raymond is of the opinion developers and hardware manufacturers need to get started on it, and this includes not only home consoles, but devices gamers take on the go or use to play lighter, more social games with their friends.

"We, for sure, have to get started on the next technologies moving forward," she said. "And that's not just consoles. We have to start experimenting with mobile and social also. The gaming industry is changing rapidly."

Currently working on the next Splinter Cell game, Ubisoft Toronto plans to announced its first independent project soon.
