It seems like Zelda: Breath of the Wild has made a lot of people want to kiss a shark?
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild spoilers ahead. Maybe?
I don't have The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, so it took me a couple of days to figure out what I've been seeing across my Twitter and Tumblr dashes.
From what I've been able to work out, it seems like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild features - an attractive shark man thing?
I don't - I don't really know what's going on here. Who is this shark man guy? Why is everyone calling him something like "big shark boyfriend" or "big fish boyfriend"? Does The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild have Mass Effect style romances?
Surely it does not. And yet, the artists of the gaming world have decided that the big shark man is definitely their boyfriend.
I don't want banging to become, like, my thing around here, but one of the tasks I enjoy is reporting on cultural themes I see as I dash about the Internet in the course of my work, and this is definitely one of the more positive and inetresting ones.
It's not even that weird, in the context of the previously mentioned Mass Effect romances. Is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's muscular fish man any stranger than Garrus or Thane or Jaal?
After some searching around I figured out that big shark boyfriend's name is Prince Sidon of the Zora. Here's his entry on Zeldapedia. I have carefully combed through Alex's The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild guide and walkthrough and there's definitely no page explaining this mystery - although there is a section all about Divine Beast Vah Ruta of the Zora, the questline during which you'll meet this guy.
It seems like Sidon actually carries Link around in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and that combined with him being about a million foot tall and bursting with muscles is the basis of this ship. Do they have gyms in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild? is that why everyone has super defined beefcake popping out of everything? Apparently Sidon has a really good voice, too - and lovely eyes. Link certainly seems to like him.
Is it right to objectify the shark man in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and to pine for his large muscly fish arms to be thrown around you? I don't know. This has gone well past my limited cultural critical faculties.
