Irony Curtain is a satirical adventure game about surviving cartoon totalitarianism
Irony Curtain: From Matryoskha With Love is a Cold War satire in the form of an adventure game.
The Adventure genre has largely been dominated by Telltale Games and similar episodic releases in recent years. While these games are certainly fun, it's nice to see a developer take the old-school, Lucasarts animated approach to the point-and-click concept.
At least, that's what comes to mind when watching the trailer for Irony Curtain. Set in the fictional Cold War nation of Matryoshka, its story follows a visitor exploring the cartoonishly totalitarian state. Players will be solve various puzzles and mini-games to progress, all while interacting with citizens that shed light on Matryoshkan life. (Spoiler alert: It's not as pleasant as it sounds.)
Details from the trailer are light, but the press release suggests the game will feature classic, item-combining gameplay.
"While our guests aren’t busy submitting themselves to unnecessary strip-searches, they will try to finagle their way through tricky scenarios using creative combinations of items," the statement reads. "Our gorgeous, colorful hand-drawn country ensures that foreign eyes will always bask in the glory of our people and natural splendor. It is our hope that these beautiful images draw their eyes away from our impoverished wealthy citizens so they do not try to steal our secrets.
Irony Curtain launches for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch in 2019.
