Indie games the big winners at Nordic Game Awards
This week's Nordic Game Awards highlighted some of the amazing games to come out of that region, with indie titles trumping the major AAA releases on the night.
Danish studio Playdead fought it out with some of the biggest games in the world - including Alan Wake, Battlefield Bad Company 2 and Just Cause 2 - before being granted the top honour of the night - Best Nordic Game, for Limbo.
It wasn't quite able to beat Swedish-developed Minecraft, however, which amusingly took home the Best Artistic Achievement for the night. The jury commented in delightful Scandinavian fashion that "In a ridiculously simplistic game world the beauty lies in the artistic empowerment of the player."
Continuing with the charm, delightful Xbox Live Arcade release Ilomilo took home the award for Best Nordic Children's Game, while Danish studio Blue Carrot Design brought a very different aesthetic to the Best Nordic Handheld Game, which was awarded to Axe In Face.
Gamasutra has the full rundown of the event, but we couldn't leave out D-Pad Studios from Norway. The company's latest game, Vikings On Trampolines, took home the only publicly-voted prize of the evening, the first-ever Nordic Indie Sensation Award. Congratulations!
