Independence could strip Scotland of UK game tax breaks

Yesterday, the European Commission lifted its block on tax incentives for the UK games industry, however, if Scotland gains its independence at the September 18 referendum, the nation could find itself stripped of the breaks.

The referendum will see Scotland vote for or against independence from the UK, and if the vote passes as a 'yes,' the nation will gain control of its own tax affairs. It then falls on the Scottish Government to devise its own equivalent of the European Commission's Games Tax Relief program. If this happens, the scheme would have to go through the Commission's lengthy approval process.

So far, the Scottish Government has not addressed this matter but we'll update you if we hear more.
