In Destiny 2, you won't need to equip your best gear to get the best out of your Engrams

Destiny 2 fixes one annoying problem introduced to the original game with the Taken King.

In the Taken King, Bungie made it so that identifying Engrams always results in better gear than what you had. This meant that every item made it possible for your Light Level to increase slightly.

This was added to give players a sense of progression towards endgame Light Levels, an alternative to relying fully on RNG.

However, the game didn't consider your best gear when deciding this, only what you had equipped. So, the community quickly realised that the best way to get the most out of every Engram was to decrypt one, equip the resulting gear, and repeat until you're done.

We even had a guide page specifically for this. Thankfully, in Destiny 2, the game will automatically take a player's best possible loadout into account when decrypting Engrams.

The game's lead Mark Noseworthy confirmed this crucial bit of info on Twitter earlier.

Noseworthy did not say, however, if this also extends to a player's vault. We're no doubt going to find out for sure when Destiny 2 launches on September 6 on PS4, and Xbox One.
