ID@Xbox supports free-to-play, microtransactions

Games published via Microsoft's indie self-publishing scheme ID@Xbox may take advantage of everything traditionally published games can, including non-traditional business models.

Microsoft digital portfolio director Chris Charla told Joystiq that there will be no set pricing structure at all, allowing developers to implement free-to-play and micro-transactions as well as premium pricing.

"On Xbox One, games that come through ID@Xbox are no different than any other game," he said.

"They have full Gamerscore, full Achievements, can take advantage of SmartGlass, Kinect – if you can do it with an Xbox One game, you can do it with anything that comes through the ID@Xbox program. That's like a fundamental tenet of the program."

Charla's comments echo those of Phil Harrison, who told Pat that all games are equal in Microsoft's eyes.
