House: 3DS proves there's "a lot of demand for a gaming primary, portable device."
SCE president and CEO Andrew House has said the success of 3DS proves there's "a lot of demand for a gaming primary portable device."
Speaking with the EU PS Blog (thanks, Gamasutra), House said when talking about the PlayStation business, normally the competition isn't referenced a lot, but in this case "it's perhaps a little salutary" since sales of 3DS have bee "exceedingly good."
"I think that shows that there is, in general, a lot of demand for a gaming primary portable device, which is how I would describe Vita," he said. "[However] our device in contrast has just so much more to offer. What I think we've done is point to a market that has really started out with potentially casual games on other devices, but now wants a deeper or better or more premier gaming experience."
His comments mirror those made by SCEE CEO Jim Ryan earlier this month, when he said sales of 3DS confounded "naysayers", as both 3DS and Vita prove there is a market for something other than a smartphone.
“There are two distinct markets," he said "The quality, the immersiveness, the richness of the experience that we believe we are going to offer on Vita, way exceeds anything that we believe to be available on any smartphone.”
