Here's the first trailer for game adaptation Rampage, starring The Rock as an ape's best friend
Warner Bros has released the first trailer for Rampage, the arcade game film adaptation we did not realise we needed.
The film stars human charisma generator Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson as Davis Okoye, a man who befriends a giant ape because animals 'get him' (in a way humans don't, presumably).
Just like the classic arcade game, the ape gets sprayed with some sort of chemical and turns really big. There's a giant wolf as well...and, of course, a crocodile/lizard thing. Honestly, it looks like fun.
The film also stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan (who looks like he's having the time of his life in the trailer), Malin Akerman, Joe Manganiello and Naomie Harris, and was directed by Brad Peyton, who also directed the honestly-pretty-solid Rock vehicle San Andreas. According to IMDB, Peyton is also attached to direct a Just Cause film.
Historically, of course, film adaptations of games have been awful. Assassin's Creed wasted the talents of Justin Kurzel, Warcraft tripped up Duncan Jones, and so on and so forth. What Rampage has going for it is that there's really not much to adapt beyond a rough concept - what if there were some giant beasts, and they destroyed a city?
In any case, it's got to be better than Doom (also starring The Rock), right?
We'll know whether Rampage somehow escapes the curse of the game adaptation when it releases on April 20, 2018.
