Here's the first trailer for Frozen Synapse 2 and more details on the game
Mode 7 Games has provided details for Frozen Synapse 2 along with a reveal trailer for its open world tactics titles.
According to the developer, the single-player game is set in a procedurally generated city which will allow players to conduct a mission in "any building or on any corner of the map" as they investigate a series of incursions. Contract missions from factions or play can be picked up in a freeform manner.
AI-controlled factions are looking to dominate the world, and each has its own "ideology through its strategic choices." This means each faction will have a different approach the game's incursions.
The city is a "living breathing" area where everything in the game is “on the map”, from money and supplies to VIP’s, hostages and the player's avatar. Players can set up an ambush and try to steal supplies from various factions, but should the player’s base get raided and they are killed, the game will end.
Core gameplay has been changed in Frozen Synapse 2 with the addition of new unit classes and more detailed individual perks.
The AI makes use of its own stealth tactics, so the player will need to super stealthy. Otherwise if spotted, the AI guards will sound an alarm and more AI will appear to defend the area.
New objects such as trees, rocks and cars provide a more realistic environment. Everything is still fully analogue though instead of grid-based Coupled with the stealth system, breaching buildings feels a lot more realistic than in the original game. Also, there are toilets.
Frozen Synapse 2 will also include Advanced Tactics in multiplayer which will be optional for "high-level players" and allow the creation of conditional plans. Other multiplayer modes and a new style of competitive play will also be added. More on multiplayer will be announced at a later date. !
Mode 7 said if the game performs well in Early Access, it will look into adding 3v3 and 4v4 multiplayer along with single-player co-op modes.
Various aspects of the game were inspired by the "janky but wonderful" X-COM: Apocalypse and Alpha Centauri but with "fewer worms that burrow into your brain," according to the studio.
Frozen Synapse 2 is currently in pre-alpha and will enter beta on PC this year. The studio hopes to offer it on platforms, but will confirm if the game will arrive on other systems at a later date.
