Here's 17 minutes of Code Vein's souls-style combat for your eyeballs

Bandai Namco's anime Dark Souls style game is looking pretty sharp in motion.

After hearing about it quite a lot and being left quite intrigued, we've now got another detailed glimpse of the gameplay of Bandai Namco's Code Vein - the new game from the folks behind the popular God Eater series that aims to mash up the methodical action RPG gameplay of 'Soulsborne' style games like Dark Souls and Bloodborne alongside anime-style visuals and storytelling.

The video comes via IGN, who are presenting it as part of their IGN firsts series. There's a bit of commentary, but then it gives way to raw gameplay if that's what you prefer.

The video makes the already-obvious comparisons to Dark Souls even more clear, though when we spoke to Code Vein director Hiroshi Yoshimura he did underline that there's more to the game than it simply being 'anime souls' - even if that is the obvious shorthand.

"It becomes a combination of the Dark Souls style high tense battle with a very high pace action – that’s what sets us apart," Yoshimura told us, explaining that Code Vein features "Very fast-paced action that you’d see in other games also."

Code Vein is out sometime in 2018 - but for now, if you're curious as to how it plays, hit the video above.
