Cross-platform play confirmed for Hearthstone on smartphones
Hearthstone players on Android and iPhone will be able to player with others using PC, iPad, Mac, and Android tablets, Blizzard has said.
Speaking with Gamespot, Blizzard's Eric Dodds said like the current versions available, players on smartphones will be unaware which platform their opponent is using.
“When you start a match on a phone, you could be playing someone on another phone, someone on a tablet, on a PC, who knows? It's all one big ecosystem," he said.
Considering Hearthstones graphics will use a bit of processing power, Dodd was unsure how long users would be able to play on their smartphones before the battery drained. He was also unsure how much data the game would use considering it is away online.
“Hearthstone is certainly... it's a beautiful game, so it definitely uses power," he said. “One thing we're constantly thinking about is how to make the most of the phone's battery.
“I don't know if it uses a lot of data. You have to have a constant connection though, so I wouldn't recommend playing it on a train.”
Blackrock Mountain is the next update for Hearthstone and will be released in April, one wing per week for the entire month. It will be accessible for 700 in-game gold or for $6.99 per wing. You can buy the entire adventure for $24.99.
