Hawken will support Oculus Rift at launch

Hawken, the bonerrific indie mech sim expected in December, will release with full support for VR headset oculus Rift.

Support for the fledgling project was revealed via an update to the Oculus Rift Kickstarter, which included an announcement video from developer Adhesive Games. It shows off how the in-game cockpit has been adjusted to allow you to swivel your head and take in everything; very cool and embedded below.

As Eurogamer notes, the headset itself isn't expected to hit retail for quite some time yet, but dev kits are available to those who shell out $300 or more on the tech's rapidly closing Kickstarter.

Happily, as Hawken is free-to-play, Oculus Rift owners won't need to fork out any extra to try out one of the few commercial games to support the tech, which is good news for all involved, as it should bring an influx of happy headset users to flesh out the multiplayer shooter's ranks.

Hawken launches via digital distribution on December 12, including through Gaikai.
