Harmonix "remain committed" to Rock Band

Guitar Hero might well be dead, but its counterpart at Harmonix sure isn't.

The company's VP of product development Greg LoPiccolo has said it will continue to give its full backing behind Rock Band despite the recent decline of the music genre as well as the recent death of its rival at Activision.

"We think there’s a lot of life left in the Rock Band franchise and there’s a lot of creative directions to take that," he told IndustryGamers.

"We certainly remain committed to that. But then beyond that, we would love to make games that are new musical experiences to throw them out there and have people accept them and get inspired by them."

On the music genre decline, LoPiccolo admitted that while both Rock Band and Guitar Hero had seen a "pretty significant decline," it wasn't because of a lack of interest from all kinds of demographics.

The last entry in the series, Rock Band 3, launched last fall. Harmonix is set to make a "signifigant" announcement at E3 in over a month.
