Halo series hits 65 million units sold

Newsflash: people like Halo. Somewhere, somebody is surprised. Maybe.

The Halo series has managed to sell 65 million units worldwide, Microsoft has announced.

Gamespot notes that's up from the 60 million of October 2014, just before the launch of Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

I don't think we ever got solid sales figures for Halo: The Master Chief Collection, but we can probably assume it's a fair chunk of that 5 million uptick - especially as it's bundled in with some Xbox One consoles.

Ongoing legacy sales of Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Edition, Halo 3, Halo: Reach, Halo 4, Halo 3: ODST Campaign Edition, Halo Wars and newer efforts like Halo: Spartan Assault will also have contributed.

Halo 5: Guardians launches in October and will probably bump that figure up to 70 million within a few months - although there are plenty of fans still hurting over Halo: The Master Chief Collection, waiting to see how launch goes before committing. Let's hope Microsoft learned its lesson.
