Halo 5 boss furious at insiders breaking embargoes
Frank O'Connor, the Franchise Development Director at 343 Industries, is sick of industry insiders breaking embargoes, stating the act spoils surprises and diminishes the hard work of developers.
In a NeoGAF thread discussing Halo leaks and embargoes in general, O'Connor responded to a user praising insiders as "Prophets", pointing out that "breaking embargoes is not prophesy. Nor does it require any particular skill or insight. Ultimately he is taking or being given information and leaking it, illegally and often erroneously."
"And he isn't doing it for some noble or worthy reason. He's doing it for attention."
O'Connor questioned what is gained by leaking information. "So you can have a mildly interesting surprise 8 hours early and lacking context?" he said. Spreading false or outdated information leads fans to "get hyped or disappointed disproportionately", and can damage the efforts and reputation of developers.
"It isn't prophecy, nor ultimately even important. It's annoying."
