Halo 4 gives you 'empowerment of player choice', keeping open structure, says 343
Halo 4 developer 343 Industries has explained why it absolutely had to stick with the series' history of giving players wide open areas and objectives with no set solution. It's all in the name of empowering players.
In a Joystiq video interview, Halo 4 creative director Josh Holmes explained, "There are definitely design tenets that we hold dear - things that we think are central to the Halo experience - and one of those is empowerment of player choice, making sure that players are presented challenges, but not really told specifically 'this is the way that you have to approach this."
"You're given a set of tools and sort of set free to overcome this obstacle any way you choose, and that - for me - is at the core of what makes Halo's gameplay great."
It certainly is looking great. Check out our gallery of 21 brand new Halo 4 campaign screens here.
