Here's everything you need to know about H1Z1's 'deadly' crafting mechanic
H1Z1 developer Sony Online Entertainment has explained in great detail the zombie sandbox game's crafting mechanic. However, reckless resource harvesting can get you killed, just like almost everything else in its delightfully miserable play-space.
Just yesterday we posted a selection of brand-new H1Z1 screens, showing off SOE's new snow weather effects. It looks almost, well, nice. We think.
Now, the studio has published a new video with commentary from H1Z1 game designer Jimmy Whisenhunt, who explains the game's crafting mechanics in detail over gameplay.
How is it deadly? Well, if you chop down a tree to harvest wood to make objects, it will fall in real-time, making both a big zombie-alerting sound, and of course, signposting yourself to other survivors in the area. Chances are if they see a tree fall, they'll figure another player is there and try to kill them for their stuff. Lovely.
Cars can be found in the environment, but you'll need to craft batteries and other supplies to keep them running. It all sounds very painful and gruelling, but we're sure survival sandbox fans will love it.
What do you think?
