Gwent's Thronebreaker campaign will become a 30-hour standalone RPG

The scope of Gwent's first single-player campaign is now so grand that CD Projekt RED will launch it as a standalone game.

Just because Gwent is a card-game doesn't mean CD Projekt RED is shying away from epic storytelling. Right from the start, the studio promised single-player campaigns, the first of which is Thronebreaker. Now it seems Thronebreaker's scope has become so massive that CD Projekt would rather treat it as a standalone release.

As reported by Eurogamer, Thronebreaker has grown into a full-scale, 30-hour RPG where choices and consequences are determined by the outcome of individual matches. As such, players will not need the standard Gwent client to play.

Thronebreaker tells the story of Meve, a queen and war veteran seeking revenge following a brutal invasion. While using Gwent's general gameplay, CD Projekt RED previously said it would alter the rules "in wildly unexpected ways". The project was delayed last year to allow for more polish.

Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales is expected to launch in parallel with the standard game's Homecoming update, which is scheduled for Q4 2018. And you thought you'd need to wait forever for the next CD Projekt RPG.
