Guilds Wars 2 dev reverses currency change decision after 24 hours of non-stop complaints

Guild Wars 2 introduced changes to its currency system this week - and will now roll them the heck back.

Guild Wars 2 players did not like ArenaNet's decision to fiddle with how they exchange in-game currency.

The developer placed restrictions on what amount of gold players could exchange for gems, which are used to buy cosmetic and other non-essential items.

The smallest number of gems players could purchase with gold was 400, which is many, many more than you'd need for small items, which might cost as little as 25 gems. Of course, there was always the option to spend real money instead of in-game gold.

This change caused an immediate hue and cry.

In a post on the MMO's forums, ArenaNet's Gaile Gray said very few players ever bought fewer than 400 gems in one go, but that the development team would take player feedback onboard.

In a follow up post, Gray announced that the system would be rolled back as soon as possible.

"It’s clear that quite a lot of you would like to have greater flexibility in using the Currency Exchange. In light of your feedback, we will update the Currency Exchange so that you can decide how you want to use it," the communications officer wrote.

"We will keep the new streamlined system and also offer a new 'Custom' button on the panel that you can use to exchange any increment of gems or gold. We anticipate rolling this out soon."

Thanks, IGN.
