GTFO developer 10 Chambers gets major investment from Tencent
Tencent is making another investment in the West, this time committing a major sum to Swedish developer 10 Chambers.
Tencent, hot off the back of establishing a Californian studio and funding projects at Spec Ops: The Line developer Yager, has acquired a major stake in 10 Chambers, also known as After Impact AB.
10 Chambers is perhaps most well known for its December 2019 title, GTFO – a co-op FPS that gained a lot of traction on social media.
The Swedish company was founded in 2015 by a group of ex-Starbreeze developers and other industry veterans. In order to achieve its long-term goals, the studio needed 'more muscle'. Enter Tencent.
"As we're closing in on six years of development of GTFO, we've realized that our ambitious long-term vision for our studio will need more muscle," says Ulf Andersson, Creative Director of 10 Chambers.
"We needed to find a partner that gives us the creative freedom to reach these new heights, while at the same time support our long-term commitment to the GTFO community. For the future of the studio as a whole; it makes it even more exciting."
The amount of cash involved in the deal has not been revealed, but the press release announcing the deal notes Tencent now had a "major stake" in the studio.
“Tencent and 10 Chambers share the same passion to create exciting and engaging experiences for our game communities," says Eddie Chan, Vice President of Tencent Games. "We are delighted to partner with the creative talents of 10 Chambers and look forward to supporting long-term development of the studio to achieve their vision in the co-op FPS genre".
10 Chambers is currently working on a "significant update" for GTFO, as plans continue to replace existing content – such as maps, enemies, skirmishes, and so on – with new content, on a regular basis.
