GTA 5 PC mods which have a "negative impact" on GTA Online will be squashed
With GTA 5 arriving on PC April 14, modders are itching to get their hands on the game, but if they create one for GTA Online, Rockstar has more or less stated it will nix any which has a negative impact on the multiplayer experience.
Speaking in an interview with Gamespot, lead gameplay designer John Macpherson never hinted at releasing mod tools (despite old unsubstantiated rumors), but instead touched upon the Rockstar Editor which allows users to create custom gameplay videos.
"Since GTA Online has such a massive and vibrant community, our primary focus is making sure that nothing detracts from that experience or has a negative impact on the overall community of players," he said regarding mods.
Instead of mod tools, Rockstar has included a video editor similar to the one in GTA 4 only with a more advanced set of tools to work with.
It will allow users to "capture and manipulate game footage at will."
"We’ve increased the number of options available so that players can manipulate film speed, depth of field, different kinds of camera positioning and the various blends between them, filters, and more," said Macpherson. "We have also expanded the ways that players can manipulate sound on their movies.
"Within the editor, players can add and edit multiple radio tracks to a single video, choosing from the huge range of score composed for the game as well select songs from the GTA 5 soundtrack and even in-game advertisements. Director mode gives players the opportunity to play and record their own scenes using any actor from GTA 5 including story and Heist crew characters."
As the story mode is played, more character options will open up for players to use, with the option to add specific lines of dialog or contextual actions, and control over the time of day and weather and pedestrian density.
"Some of the classic cheats will open up too, bringing a ton of cinematic possibilities," he continued.
As far as modding goes, Hayssam Keilany is working on bringing the iCEnhancer mod to GTA 5 and you can probably expect many to land on Nexus Mods at some point post release.
At least the game is moddable, which means we can except some really great options coming from the community as with GTA 4. Probably some really crappy ones as well, but that just adds to the fun.
