The excellent Gris is coming to the App Store this month
Gris, an excellent Switch and PC puzzle-platformer from late last year, is coming to mobile.
The game, in which you play as a girl exploring a world that serves as a metaphor for her crumbling psyche, was a big hit when it launched on Switch and PC. It's one of the many short, artful platformers we've seen in the last decade or so, but the puzzles are genuinely inventive and fun, and the plot that emerges across the adventure is pretty engrossing, despite an absence of dialog.
It's also visually astonishing, and was nominated for two awards at the 2019 DICE Awards.
Now the game has popped up on the App Store for preorder, with a release date set for August 22.
The game's price is set at $4.99, making this the cheapest version of Gris. The game costs $16.99 on Steam (although how it will work on a touch screen remains to be seen). It weighs in at 2.9GB and will require a phone running iOS 10.0 or later. It will be compatible with the iPhone 5S and onwards.
This follows the release of Journey - it's a good month for major indies coming to the iPhone.
If you missed the initial release of Gris, keep an eye on this iOS version - if the controls work out, it's well worth a play.
