Gran Turismo 6 coming to PS3 this year, exec suggests
A slim comment from Sony Worldwide Studios boss Michael Denny suggests the next Gran Turismo may be upon us sooner than expected.
In an interview with Silicon Republic, Denny said the PlayStation 3 still has a lot of life in it and rattled off a list of upcoming releases
"Look at the games coming out on the PlayStation 3 like The Last of Us, Beyond: Two Souls, GT6, and then on the third-party side of things another fantastic Assassin’s Creed, GTA,” he said.
The way the comment is presented in the article suggests the games listed are expected within the next year, putting Gran Turismo 6's tentative release down for sometime before February 2014.
Gran Turismo 6 has been rumoured as a PlayStation 4 title, but it has been in development for literal years, so is equally likely to turn up as a PlayStation 3 swansong.
Sony has never formally announced the racer sequel but it's something of an open secret as Polyphony Digital has nothing else on its plate, talks about it all the time, and has been spotted in the wild gathering reference materials.
Gran Turismo 5 shipped in December 2010. It took five years to develop, and series creator Kazunori Yamauchi said it was held back by the PlayStation 3. Despite the lengthy development times, the Gran Turismo series is one of the pinnacles of the genre and has shifted nearly 70 million units.
