Good Old Games launches new submission process for indies
It isn't just the console giants doing everything they can to lure indies onto their side. Good Old Games has launched a new indie-friendly submission process so that they can get more independent developers featured on the service.
Developers will now have their entries looked at by staff who are "always ready to openly discuss your game." All a developer has to do is submit a simple form with a brief description of their game, along with details of its platforms, DLC, release status, and use of micro-transactions.
"We’ll tell you exactly what we think about your title," says GOG. "We know our users’ tastes, and we do our best to present them with a selection of DRM-free games they’ll enjoy. We review all submissions and pick those that offer the qualities our users value most, such as gameplay depth, originality, and a high level of polish."
GOG pledges to always write back to the developer within two weeks, whether the game is accepted or not.
This isn't the only way that GOG is looking to support indies on their service. They're also guaranteeing a social media campaign, big marketing pushes, a featured spot on the GOG home page, and an advance on royalties. This last point comes with a catch - GOG will take a 40% cut of the money made on the game until the advance is recouped. So a developer gets some money up front to help polish their game, but will initially pay a little more in order to do so.
If this leads to more indies getting their games out there, that can only be a good thing.
