Gold sub required for new and existing Xbox Live video content

Microsoft has confirmed that a Gold-level subscriber paywall will be in effect on some of its new video content services - and some of the existing ones, too.

"Starting in November 2011, all AT&T U-verse TV for Xbox 360 customers will be required to subscribe to Xbox Live Gold. Without membership of Xbox Live Gold, you will no longer be able to access U-Verse TV through your Xbox," a customer information letter received and posted by GiantBomb reveals.

Existing AT&T U-verse subscribers will receive a $60 credit on their bills in November in "recognition" of the new requirement.

The site noted that some of Microsoft's new content providers will also require a Gold level subscription; Verizon made the requirement clear in its press release announcing the new partnership.

"Public service broadcasters, like BBC, and transaction-based applications, like Best Buy’s Cinemanow, will be available to all Xbox LIVE members," a Microsoft representative said.

"Other applications and services, such as HBOGO, Bravo and Dailymotion, will require an Xbox LIVE Gold membership."

Microsoft did not respond to a request from the site to provide a break down, saying only that more information is coming soon.
