GOG is offering The Witcher: Enhanced Edition free for client users

Now's your chance to pick up The Witcher's first adventure for free.

The Witcher: Enhanced Edition can now be yours on PC for free by simply installing the latest version of the GOG Galaxy client.

The storefront, which is owned by CD Projekt Red, is trying to entice users to install its native client, which updated to a 2.0 version last year. If that is an acceptable price to pay for the game, then it's yours to claim.

To get your copy, you will have to download the latest version of GOG Galaxy. From there, head over to the recent tab and click on the banner that is offering the game. This only appears for users with the most up-to-date version of the client, so make sure yours is on the latest version. The post for the promotion then says, "After a while, the game will show up in your games library inside the application and in your GOG.COM collection."

And there you go, you now own The Witcher: Enhanced Edition. Easy as that. It will be yours to keep forever.

This is the game that really did kick things off for CD Projekt Red, who have ballooned into one of the biggest entertainment companies in the world since.

The first game, while large at the time, tells a much, much smaller scale story than breakout hit The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. However, it was still video games' introduction to Geralt of Rivia. It's a fun little adventure for what it is and sets up the story the developer would later go on to tell.

So, if you have a spare 40 hours before you dive into Cyberpunk 2077 next week, feel free to get your copy. At the very least, it could be fun to see how far the company has come between then and the release of one of the most anticipated games ever made.
