Ghost Recon: Wildlands lets co-op players sow chaos among a drug cartel

Ghost Recon: Wildlands doesn't just mark the return of a classic Ubisoft series, it also marks several new benchmarks for open world gameplay. Its massive map promises to be Ubisoft's biggest yet, covering multiple ecosystems and various communities. So what does this mean for gameplay? It means up to four players can work together to complete objectives however they'd like, as introduced in a brand-new gameplay trailer.

Wildlands takes place in Bolivia, which has been almost completely taken over by the Santa Blanca drug cartel. The players are Ghosts, members of an elite Special Forces team sent in to dismantle the relationship between the cartel and Bolivia's corrupt government. For this trailer, that means capturing a high-ranking cartel operative called El Pozolero by any means necessary.

The "by any means necessary" phrase isn't a misnomer - you have a huge range of options in terms of how you complete missions. You could go with the stealth approach of classic Ghost Recon games, sneaking past enemies. You can plot out the most effective way of taking out every enemy without raising an alarm. Or you could go with the action-packed route of rushing in guns blazing. Whatever you choose, the environments are huge and varied enough to allow for a wide range of strategies, made more interesting if you have a co-op team approaching targets from other angles.

However you choose to play, you can pick up Ghost Recon: Wildlands for yourself once it launches on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on March 7.
