Ghost Recon getting short film treatment from Oscar winners

Ubisoft has revealed that it's working with Oscar winners François Alaux and Hervé de Crécy to release a 30-minute prequel film this fall for Ghost Recon: Future Soldier.

Alaux and Crecy, who directed the award-winning animated short Logorama, will direct the film and Children of Men writer Tim Sexton and Logromam's writer Gregory Pruss will pen the dialog and story.

Little Minx, a division of Ridley Scott and Associates, is also involved with the short film.

This isn't Ubisoft’s first foray into short films, as last year it released Lineage for Assassin's Creed II on YouTube. However, this time around, instead of a series of shorts, Ghost Recon will just have one film.

“We don’t look at it just as a video game brand,” film producer Adrian Lacey told Variety. “For us, it’s very much an entertainment brand. Videogames talk to a lot more people than they did a while back.

"It’s a much bigger audience so we’re trying to bring more people to it.”

“The idea is to come out and come out big,” added executive producer Xavier Poix. "From TV to the internet, all possibilities are open.”

The short film is separate from the live action trailer that debuted this morning, which was also directed by Little Minx.

The trailer features the Ghosts going afters a war criminal in Moscow and taking on an army before vanishing from sight like, well, ghosts.

Ubisoft has yet to reveal plans for the short's premiere, but we'll keep you posted.

Ghost Recon: Future Solider is slated for release this fall on PC, PS3, Wii and Xbox 360.
