Getting Skyrim Special Edition for the mods? Clear some extra space on your console
Skyrim Special Edition needs a little extra elbow room if you're going to fiddle around with mods.
Skyrim Special Edition supports mods on consoles, which is great, but with PC-like power comes PC-like responsibility.
In a new post on the Bethesda Blog reiterating the system requirements and release availability, the publisher quietly slipped in an addition to the console system requirements for Skyrim Special Edition.
"For Skyrim Special Edition, Mods will reserve 5 GB and 1 GB of space on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, respectively," Bethesda wrote.
Just to make that super clear: PS4 needs an extra 1GB, Xbox One needs an extra 5GB. So if you're running a 250GB drive stuffed full of game installs, you may need to get in there and clear some stuff out (and consider upgrading to 1TB if this keeps happening; what a relief it has been to me, and not at all difficult).
In case you missed it the first time, here's how much room you'll need on your console's drive if you want to play Skyrim Special Edition even without mods:
- PS4
- 20 GB (North America)
- 33 GB (Europe)
- Xbox One
- 17 GB (North America)
- 25 GB (Europe)
The additional space required in Europe is probably for all the extra language stuff, as usual.
Skyrim Special Edition launches this month on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
Oh, just as a reminder: if you own Skyrim on PC will all the DLC the Special Edition upgrade is free. Nice.
