Get a load of Bound, a gorgeous 3D platformer from the Datura team
Bound is a story-driven procedural 3D platformer, which developer Plastic describes as both a game and not a game.
The beautiful Bound trailer above was shown at PlayStation Experience, but left us with a lot of questions.
A follow-up PlayStation Blog post has some more details. The project hails from Plastic, the Polish indie behind Datura and Linger in Shadows, and is designed to appeal both to hardcore gamers through its challenging movement mechanics and to those just wanted to explore the narrative and artistic possibilities of video games. There's no UI and the goals are not shoved in your face; you decide how you want to play.
The character movement is fascinatingly beautiful, captured from performances by ballerina Maria Udod, choreographed by Michał Adam Góral. The music is a blend of traditional ballet and "electroacoustic" pieces by Oleg “Heinali” Shpudeiko.
Plastic stressed that the gorgeous game will be presented in "ultra-sharp anti-aliased 60 Hz in 1080p resolution", designed to "squeeze the most of your PS4". I can dig it.
The stage show below contains plenty of gameplay footage as well as discussion of Plastic's goals and inspirations - it also shows off and discusses the dance mechanic, which is related to problem-solving and the game's narrative. You can dance at any time, apparently, which will probably be all the time.
