Gears 5 Characters Guide - Who Are the Characters in Gears 5?
This is our complete Gears 5 characters guide, detailing all the returning characters and newcomers alike, including Kait, J.D., Del, and more.
Gears 5 is out right now, and it features a host of returning characters, along with newcomers and a new protagonist. In this Gears 5 characters guide, we'll be providing you with a complete list of every character that appears in the game, so you know a bit about the various characters before you head into the game.
Gears 5 Characters List
The original Gears of War trilogy featured Marcus Fenix as the storied playable protagonist, before the torch was passed to his son, J.D. Fenix, in Gears of War 4. Now, J.D.'s friend Kait is taking up the reigns of the playable protagonist for Gears 5, after a revelation about her family ties at the end of the fourth game. In the sections below, we'll be detailing all of the Gears 5 characters that are confirmed to be appearing in the sequel.
- Kait Diaz
- J.D Fenix
- Marcus Fenix
- Damon Baird
- Delmont Walker
- Victor Hoffman
- Myrrah, the Locust Queen
- Anya Stroud
Gears 5 Kait Diaz
We were introduced to Kait Diaz back in Gears of War 4. Kait made up the Gears squad for the game, which consisted of J.D. Fenix, Del Walker, and later Marcus Fenix. This time though, Kait is going to be the protagonist of Gears 5.
The bombshell that Gears of War 4 ended on was the reveal that Kait Diaz is linked to Myrrah, the Locust Queen (more on her below). We now know that Kait is related by blood to the antagonist of the previous Gears of War trilogy, but how will this play out in Gears 5?
Gears 5 J.D. Fenix
James Dominic Fenix, otherwise known as J.D., was the protagonist of Gears of War 4. He's the son of Marcus Fenix and Anya Stroud, and a former Gear soldier before the events of Gears 5. In the upcoming sequel, it seems like J.D. will be playing a supporting role to Kait Diaz.
Gears 5 Marcus Fenix
Marcus Fenix was the gruff protagonist of the original Gears of War, when it burst onto the scene back in 2006. Through the original trilogy, Marcus and squadmates Baird and Cole played the leading role in wiping out the Locust Horde, saving humanity and the planet.
Then in Gears of War 4, Marcus took something of a backseat for the development of protagonist J.D. Fenix, his somewhat estranged son. Marcus is really the grumpy old grandad of the Gears series at this point, but he'll be returning once again for Gears 5.
Gears 5 Damon Baird
The asshole squadmate of Marcus Fenix in the original Gears of War trilogy, Damon Baird will be returning for Gears 5, after an older version of the original character popped up towards the end of Gears of War 4. Baird also appeared in Gears of War Judgment, a spin-off of the main franchise in which he was the protagonist (and which remains a very underrated game in the franchise).
Gears 5 Delmont Walker
Del Walker returns for Gears 5, after making his series debut alongside J.D. and Kait in Gears of War 4. Whereas Kait was the newcomer to the squad in Gears of War 4, Del and J.D. go back years, all the way to being a childhood friend, before both signing up to be Gears soldiers. Just like J.D. though, Del is now also a former Gears soldier by the events of Gears 5.
Gears 5 Victor Hoffman
Hoffman was the wisened Colonel leading the Gears forces back in the original Gears of War trilogy. Hoffman and Marcus Fenix often butted heads in the original trilogy, as was still the case when Hoffman appeared briefly in Gears of War 4 as a minor character. We don't really know what role Hoffman will play in Gears 5, but we do know that the old commander will be back.
Gears 5 Myrrah, the Locust Queen
The antagonist of Gears of War 2 and Gears of War 3, Myrrah was the leader of the entire Locust Horde, before meeting her demise at the hands of Marcus Fenix. So far, Myrrah is confirmed to appear in flashbacks only during Gears 5, which makes sense considering she's very much dead by the events of Gears of War 4.
Gears 5 Anya Stroud
Anya Stroud has been with Marcus Fenix, Baird, and others since the very beginning of the Gears of War franchise. While Anya played a tactical role in the first game, she joined in the action in an active part of the Gears forces in the later games. Anya will once again be returning in Gears 5, but we don't yet know what role she'll be playing.
