GDC: SOE announces G.I.R.L. game dev scholarships
Sony Online Entertainment has announced the most patronising initiative of GDC so far, a new game development scholarship program designed specifically for females. The program is called the G.I.R.L. (Gamers In Real Life) Scholarship and is being developed in cooperation with the Arts Institute.
Apparently 61 percent of people polled by the institute believed male domination of the industry is a deterrent to women getting involved in games development.
Applications for the G.I.R.L. Scholarship will begin on April 1 and applicants must be a current student at one of the Art Institute locations. One winner will be selected to win a $10,000 tuition scholarship at the Art Institute and will also win a paid 10 week internship at a Sony Online dev studio.
