IGN took a “brief peek” at the Nintendo DS iteration of Activision’s (hopefully) triumphant return to World War II. The verdict: its bears an uncanny resemblance to its modern-era predecessor.

The action remains extremely similar to Call of Duty 4, though: N-Space is using last year's game as its first person shooter foundation, so you'll find that the game not only plays similarly with its stylus/D-pad control for pin-point precision and its drag-and-drop interface for easy weapon selection, but it also looks pretty close in visual detail. The framerate remains just a smidge under 30, just a little choppy but certainly playable – but the graphic detail have been given a bit of a bump with lots more visual "pop" like over the top explosions and particle effects. The Nintendo DS game has also been given a nudge up in audio with tons of voice-over during the missions.

However, according to Activision, CoD:WaW DS will live and die by its multiplayer – something that'll be unveiled next month. We’re hopeful that the promised online mode will mimic that of its console cousins, but Activision is only saying “deathmatch” for now.
