GaymerX changes name to become more inclusive

The GaymerX convention is changing its name and hoping to return for a third year.

Now called GX: Everyone Games, the event hopes to return in November or December to San Francisco, provided it can raise $80,000 via Kickstarter.

The event has already raised some sponsorship money including $10,000 from Blizzard. As for the name change, the organisers are hoping it will appeal to a wider community that doesn't identify with mainstream games culture.

"We've become more and more aware that not all of our attendees identify with the 'gaymer' label," wrote the organisers on the official Kickstarter page.

"And while we love all our gay dude friends, we realize there are more people than that who want an awesome space to hang with their friends in a safe and diverse environment. We want to make sure we represent everyone who feels like they've been left out of mainstream gamer culture."

Tickets for the event - which is currently without a venue - cost $60 and for clarity the organisers have provided an estimated breakdown of costs. The $80,000 via Kickstarter accounts for around 50 percent of costs, with sponsorship and additional ticket sales expected to make up the rest.
