GameStop to hire 17,000 holiday staff to cope with next-gen launch
With next-gen consoles likely to push holiday sales figures up even higher than usual, GameStop has elected to create thousands of temporary jobs in an effort to meet demand. Gamespot reports the retail chain will hire 17,000 staff across the US ahead of the launch of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The holiday period accounts for 40% of GameStop's annual sales, and the chain understandably described its hiring plans as "critical" to success. Between 25-30% of temporary staff go on to secure permanent positions with the chain, the company added. Both the PS4 and Xbox One launch in November.
