GameStop offers olive branch to customers affected by Deus Ex coupon bungle

GameStop has offered folks affected by it pulling OnLive codes out of the PC version of Deus Ex: Human Revolution a $50 store card and a coupon for a free used game with the purchase of two others.

According to a mailer sent out to customers and posted over on Joystiq:

"We regret the events surrounding this title release and that our customers were put in the middle of this issue between GameStop and Square Enix, the publisher of this game. And for this, we are truly sorry. For your inconvenience, we would like to offer you a free $50 GameStop gift card and a Buy 2 Get 1 Free pre-owned purchase. We want to earn back your trust and confidence in the GameStop experience. Please bring in this email and your store receipt or order confirmation from GameStop.com and present it to a Game Advisor."

Earlier this week, GameStop removed a coupon from the PC versions of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, which allowed purchasers a free download code for the game via OnLive.

Square Enix said in a statement regarding the matter that GameStop was not made aware of the coupon offer, and it respected "the right of GameStop to have final say over the contents of products it sells and to adjust them where they see fit in accordance with their policies."

GameStop has now pulled retail copies of the PC version of the game off store shelves and has shipped them back to Square.

Deus Ex launched in the US on Tuesday, and is out in the UK today.
