GameStop expects new console announcements at E3 2016

US retailer GameStop has said in the latest earnings report that it expects new console announcements to be made at E3 in June. Although the retailer wasn't specific, for obvious reasons, it was at least comfortable enough to let investors know it's happening.

"We expect E3 to focus on key titles in the back half of the year and console announcements," COO Tony Bartel said, as reported by Gamespot.

"We also expect VR to generate significant gaming consumer and press interest."

With that said, GameStop has yet to reveal projected sales for these new units, and appears to have only included the Nintendo NX in one of presentation slide.

Reports have been coming in hot and heavy about new consoles being in the works at both Sony and Microsoft. Both platform holders are said to be prepping upgraded versions of the current systems.

PS4 Neo in Sony's case, and Xbox One Scorpio in Microsoft's case.

E3 takes place June 14-16.
