GameStop confirms iOS trade-in program, plans to launch own tablet lineup

American retailer GameStop has confirmed rumours that stores will now accept iOS devices as trade-ins for cash or in-store credit. In addition, it's announced plans to sell its own tablets that will come "preloaded with exclusive content".

From today, customers can now trade their iOS devices in-store for cash or credit.

The announcement confirms earlier rumours that appeared following Gamestop’s annual managerial event in Las Vegas last fortnight.

GameStop states that they will accept any generation of iPod, iPad, iPhone, iPod Nano, iPod Shuffle or iPod Mini, provided it is in working order and in good cosmetic condition. The retailer will not accept devices that have "severe" scratches, cracked screens, dents or engravings. Water damaged devices and devices with unreadable or defective screens are also ineligible for trade-in. The full terms and conditions can be found on the GameStop website.

In addition to the iOS announcement, the company has announced plans to begin selling GameStop-branded tablets in time for the holiday season.

Reuters, GameStop spokeswoman Wendy Dominguez divulged the intentions for the device.

"We are evaluating which tablets to carry in stores this holiday and the chosen tablets will be capable of delivering a great gaming experience using the latest chip technology," she said. In addition, she also announced that the tablets sold through the retail chain "will come preloaded with exclusive content."

GameStop also announced it is looking at creating a controller to accompany the devices.
