GMAs 2011: Donlan, RPS, Gaston, Keza, EG big winners
Part of London's South Bank was filled to the tipping point with a ton of games journos and PRs. It was the annual Games Media Awards, which was hosted by Inbetweeners headmaster, Greg Davies.
Last year's awards pointed to some big wins for now OXM-based Jon Blyth, Rock Paper Shotgun, Eurogamer, now-departed CVG ed Tim Ingham and RetroGamer, while PC Zone took over the Media Legend throne from Pat following his win in 2009 alongside best online writer and best blog.
VG247 won nothing last year despite being nominated for best blog. This year, we were also up for the same award, which went to a well-deserving Rock, Paper, Shotgun.
Brenna was on the sacking line if we din't win - it's only fair, because it happened to Johnny last year - so it looks as though she is out a job as of Thursday. Blame yourself if you didn't vote for us. We're joking obviously.
Martin Gaston of Videogamer won the award for Rising Star, and the award for Games Broadcast/Podcast went to SentUAMessage.
Coverage in a National Newspaper was awarded to The Guardian, while the Regional Games Columnist Award was handed to Dave Cook from the Scotsman and of NowGamer.
The winner for Coverage in a Mainstream Magazine next went to Shortlist, and the Specialist Print Writer Award went to a much deserving Christian Donlan.
The Print Magazine Award went to Edge. Keza McDonald walked away with the Specialist Writer Online Award, another recipient of a well-deserved award. And Eurogamer walked away with the Games Website Award.
Patrick Garratt, who won the Games Media Legend award two years ago, got on stage to deliver the speech for this year's award for the second year running.
While on stage, Pat was "flanked by dwarves" and was apparently "assaulting the industry," with his speech.
Eventually, Pat introduced the winner of the award as Colin Campbell, who is currently with IGN.
