Games industry best at enforcing age ratings, says FTC

The US Federal Trade Commission has released the results of its latest investigation into enforcement of age ratings at retail, and we won.

The FTC used a secret shopper scheme to test ratings enforcement, sending underage consumers into stores to buy inappropriate games, DVDs, movie tickets and CDs.

Only 13 percent of those sent to games retailers were successful in making their purchase; a significant improvement on 2009's 20 percent.

64 percent managed to score a restricted CD, with 47 percent nabbing R (18 plus) DVDs and 33 percent gaining entry to R movies. Tch, tch, tch.

Target and Gamestop were the most vigilant enforcers of the stores investigated, with Walmart the least attentive.

Thanks, Go Nintendo.
