Gamers poll more than $2 million for Child's Play's coffers in 2010

Penny Arcade-founded charity Child's Play has smashed previous high scores by raising an astounding $2,294,317 in 2010, all of which will end up helping sick kids and their families cope with the stress and discomfort of hospitalisation.

The lengthy figure marks a new record for the charity, says GoNintendo, topping 2009's total of $1,780,870. Over the eight years of its lifespan, Child's Play has attracted over $9 million in donations.

While the charity's website still records an outdated and rather more modest total of USD $1,180,000, founders Mike Krahulik and Jerry Holkins have apparently given voice to their delight and approval. The famously cynical Holkins (Tycho) remarking that "the world may be a better place than I previously thought," adding via yesterday's comic blurb, "if it is possible to Win Charity, you have done so".

Founded in 2003, Child's Play is largely funded by gamers and industry figures, with the former performing spectacular feats to attract donations, such as the notorious Desert Bus challenge. Proceeds assist hospitals worldwide in acquiring much-needed toys and games, which are widely believed to aid recovery of ill children distressed by their surroundings.
