GameMaker Studio Standard Edition free for a limited time

The latest version of GameMaker Studio is now available on Steam for free, and for a limited time, you can upgrade to the Standard license pack at no additional cost.

As Destructoid notes, taking advantage of the deal is a bit tricky - you have to download the free software on Steam, then opt into the beta through Steam.

When you fire up the beta version, you'll be prompted to supply an email address, and then receive a license key as well as marketing materials.

As you'll see when you try to load the GameMaker blog post detailing this process, the company's servers are taking a beating thanks to the demand, so be patient.

The Standard license edition normally goes for $50.
