Gameloft to produce first MLP: Friendship is Magic games
Hasbro and Gameloft have joined forces to produce mobile games based on the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and Littlest Pet Shop brands.
Naturally only the first of those two has sent the Internet into convulsions of delight; although there are plenty of fan-made games, including some near-professional ones, licensors have been slow to capitalise on the massive popularity of the Friendship is Magic animated series.
Gameloft's offerings will be the first official games to bear the Friendship is Magic brand, and are expected on Android and iOS by the end of the year.
That's all the details either company offered, although Hasbro digital media and marketing senior vice president Mark Blecher did offer a statement via press release which may outrage Bronies:
"This agreement brings together Hasbro's powerhouse girls' brands with one of the industry's preeminent mobile game developers which will take My Little Pony and Littlest Pet Shop play to an entirely new level of fun," he said.
It's for girls. Magical friendship is not for you, men! Go back to your guns and tanks while we ladies busy ourselves sewing dresses.
Gameloft, an offshoot of Ubisoft and one of the most successful mobile publishers, sounds slightly more aware of its audience.
"The opportunity to collaborate on such globally recognized brands such as My Little Pony and Littlest Pet Shop not only allows us to build a unique and immersive universe for the characters we've all grown to love, but to take the much-adored franchises to the next level of digital play," publishing SVP Gonzague de Vallois said.
